You get a price before we start. It does not change when the truck arrives.
Meet the Boerne Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.
We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or when you’re staring at a bent track after backing out too fast. Every person on this page lives in or around Boerne, and we all answer to the same standard: do it right, say what you’ll do, and stand behind it. That’s not a slogan on a truck. It’s how we work.
Our People
Carl Dutton, Owner
I started this company in 1984, back when Boerne was a fraction of the size it is now. I’m still the one who answers calls some nights, still the one who checks jobs when a customer has a question. I’ve seen what happens when a homeowner tries to adjust a torsion spring with a butter knife and a YouTube video, and I’ve made enough house calls at odd hours to know that people remember who showed up, not who talked the best game. I named the company Mainspring because that single spring carries the entire weight of the door. One part fails, nothing works. That’s how I think about this business.
Mike R., Lead Technician
Mike’s been with us for 14 years, and he’s the one we send when a job has gone sideways somewhere else. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster, Genie, and Chamberlain openers, but his real specialty is diagnosing what other techs missed. He lives in Fair Oaks Ranch with his wife and two dogs that he talks about more than his kids. Mike keeps a notebook of every oddball repair he’s done in Kendall County, and he’ll tell you that the Hill Country’s hard water eats garage door hardware faster than the coastal humidity does.
Doris V., Senior Installer
Doris joined us in 2016 after eight years running her own handyman business in San Antonio. She handles our new door installations and full replacements, and she’s particularly sharp on Clopay and Amarr product lines. Doris is the one who notices if your door frame has shifted with the limestone soil shifts we get around Boerne, and she’ll tell you before the install instead of after. She drives a 2009 F-250 she refuses to replace, and she bakes cookies for customers who’ve had a rough week and a broken door on top of it.
James T., Service Coordinator
James is the live voice you get when you call (830) 365-0775 at 10 p.m. on a Sunday. He’s been with us since 2019, and he knows which technician is where, which trucks have which parts, and whether your particular Wayne Dalton model is still worth repairing. He’s not reading from a script. James grew up in Comfort, and he understands that “out by Cordillera Ranch” means something different for dispatch timing than “downtown near Main Street.” He keeps a map of Boerne’s older neighborhoods taped to his desk because GPS still gets confused by some of the hill roads.
Elena M., Apprentice Technician
Elena started with us in 2023 after leaving a warehouse job she hated. She’s working through her journeyman training under Mike R., and she’s already the fastest on the team at cable replacements. She’s particularly good with customers who want to understand what broke and why, because she remembers not knowing herself. Elena lives in Bergheim and commutes in a Jeep that she’s slowly rebuilding on weekends. She’ll tell you straight that she’s still learning, and then she’ll fix your door faster than you expected.
One Standard, Every Job
The K.E.Y.S. code isn’t a poster in the break room. Mike R. quotes it when he’s training Elena on spring balance. Doris checks it before she signs off on an install. James uses it when he’s explaining to a customer why we’re recommending a repair over a replacement. Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. That last one means the 90-Day Done Right Promise goes on every invoice in writing. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork to file, no argument about whose fault it was. We’ve been in Boerne long enough to know that a square deal is the only kind that keeps a local business alive for 42 years.
We’re not a franchise. We’re not a call center routing you to whoever’s available in San Antonio. We’re the same crew, with the same phone number, showing up in the same trucks, working under the same promise Carl wrote down in 1984. When you call (830) 365-0775, you’re calling people who know where River Road Church is and why the afternoon traffic on Main Street backs up the way it does. That’s not incidental. That’s how you get to someone fast, with the right part, and get it done in one visit.
